It struck me recently that I have not discussed the benefits or otherwise of wintering in Gent and in particular Portus Ganda.
It is a new facility with room for approx 30 boats, although these are mainly on finger moorings suitable for up to 14 meter length although there are a number of spaces along the walls for larger boats.
Rates are low in the winter 3 euros per meter per month October-March
The Havenmeester Carlos is a very helpful chap, not a lot of English spoken but tries very hard to be as helpful as possible.
Facilities on site are good, as can be seen from the picture above the complex includes an indoor swimming pool and baths, underneath the building there are showers, toilets, an industrial washing machine and a large tumble dryer.
The whole complex is very clean and well maintained.
Portus Ganda is also only a short walk to the City centre, less than 10 minutes. Always lots going on in the centre, plenty of bars and restaurants. There is a quiz night once a week and for those who like a flutter a poker night at the local Irish bar. There is also a multi-plex cinema showing mainly english speaking films with subtitles in Dutch.
There is a large Friday market and also several smaller Sunday markets.
Apart from the cold weather we have been very happy on this mooring and would strongly recommend it to anyone wishing to spend the winter in Belgium.
