Meaux to Sillery – The Marne
We left Meaux on Sunday morning (15th) and arrived in Sillery this lunchtime (19th)
A very relaxed and easy journey with no hold ups and no hassle.
The weather has been changeable with some cold mornings, but things tend to improve after lunchtime and we have had some glorious afternoon cruising.
A delightful river is the Marne.
The cold bright mornings brought out a strange wardrobe combination.
A two storey tree house now, that is sticking it to the Jones’s.
We were going against the flow on the Marne and although this was not much of a hindrance we noticed the flows more at the lock barrages.
At Ferte -sous-Jouarre we stumbled on a Jazz festival which was serendipitous.
It was so good I bought the T-shirt.
You got to be very sure of your sexuality to paint a boat like this.
The impressive American war memorial at Chateau Thierry, its huge. Anyone travelling this way , please note there is a new town pontoon with all facilities at Chateau Thierry .
The impressive Champagne town of Damery appears in the morning mist.
and the welcome stop at Sillery where we will stop for week to replenish and welcome friends travelling up from Italy to visit us.
Next week we will start the journey up to the Somme.

I’m sure you will enjoy the Somme . Of all the rivers and canals we did in Germany France Holland and Belgium this was our favourite. We went foe a week and stayed two months. We didn’t go through the sea lock at st Valery we found it wasn’t needed as we could get in on the bus easily. Ask in the various town halls to view the churches they are very obliging . The people are so friendly

Thanks for that Kath, yes we have been before, twice as a matter of fact. The problem is that we have told everybody we meet how wonderful it is and I suspect lots of those will turn up on the Somme this year. More people to play with ?
