Left Auxerre at the top of the Nivernais canal journeyed along the short stretch of the mighty Yvonne River to the start of the return south down the canal de Bourgogne.
We are now in the attractive town of Ancy le Franc on the way to the summit of the Bourgogne at Pouilly, which we should reach by next weekend.
The Bourgogne canal so far seems every bit as good as the Nivernais, very attractive with bags of medieval architecture and interest. The Landscape is a mixture of forest and open farmland interspersed with small villages and attractive towns such as Ancy.
There has been some concern in the region due to the lack of rainfall in the last few months but at the moment we are sitting on the boat in the middle of a serious downpour but we cannot complain as the ground is very dry and the water level in the canal is well below normal.
The following photos show the highlights of our trip from Auxerre to the Ancy le Franc
