Day 158 –Thursday 6 September –Nivernais canal

We left Moret after a delightful 3 day stop on Friday the last day in August, and headed up the Seine and then up the Yonne to Auxerre.

After we turned onto the Yonne we heard delighted cries from an oncoming boat, it was Bob and Lynn on ‘Tracker ‘who suggested we might be going the wrong way.  They failed to persuade us to turn around and we made vague promises to meet up with them over the winter or early next year.
We moored up on Friday evening at Pont-sur-Yonne on some very attractive new pontoons.

On Saturday we ventured as far as Sens.  Always wanted to stop at this medieval town but never managed it before.

Had a very nice lunch in Sens, if you look carefully you can see Teresa reflected in my glasses.

A medieval church opposite out mooring.
It was a great stop and we met up with Roger and Wendy on ‘Izula ‘and had a very enjoyable evening with them, consuming far too much wine but lots of laughter at probably not very funny jokes.

The rest of the Yonne was a delight and we stopped at another medieval town Joigny and walked its steep streets till my calf’s ached.

We moored on Tuesady night in Auxerre and did a big shop and  fueled up before  heading up the Nivernais and a delightful little mooring at Acolay.  We will stay here for 2 nights to get some domestics done, washing clothes etc  The place is packed with hire boats who are all leaving today to get back to the hire boat base at Chatel-Censoir.    There are reported water level problems at Lucy about 30k away from us.  We will go down and have a look tomorrow as we need to get through to Decize.  Watch this space.
