Danish ‘Hygge’ on the boat
Hygge is as Danish as roast pork and it goes far in illuminating the Danish soul. In essence, hygge means creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life with good people. The warm glow of candlelight is hygge. Friends and family – that’s hygge too. There’s nothing more hygge than sitting round a table or fire, discussing the big and small things in life. Perhaps hygge explains why the Danes are supposedly the happiest people in the world?
As winter draws in, the collecting and stacking of dry logs, and and having a glowing log burning fire, with Gladys sprawled in front and us sipping hot chocolate, I think we are well on the way to creating Hygge, (pronounced Hooga) on the boat.
Stay cosy
