Corbie- Canal Somme – Tuesday 17 June

Here we are back in Corbie after a really enjoyable trip back up the Somme from Abbeville, and a very cool stop in Amiens on the way.

Hanging gardens of a delightful Château on the way to Amiens.

Amiens and its Gothic cathedral come into view.

We always intended to stop in Amiens to catch the famed ‘La cathedrale en couleurs’ at nightfall, the multiple colours of the portals of Amiens Cathedral give new life to the saints, apostles and other figures sculpted in the 13th century.

Waiting for the darkness and the show to begin

It was really quite impressive and on every night throughout the summer free of charge.

We left Amiens early yesterday and arrived in Corbie before the lock closures at lunchtime and chilled out for the rest of Monday.  We will stay here and stock up with food and fuel before heading for the Canal du Nord tomorrow.

The rest of the week will be on commercial waterways up into Belgium and the next destination Leers Nord, and the fabulous Anita and family at the Maison de canal and hopefully meeting up with Paul, Dawn and Gunner.

The Somme is a wonderful canal/river and I urge anyone in the area to pay a visit and enjoy its beautiful scenery and atmosphere it really has been a delight
